An incident occurred Monday night on Pleasant Ridge Road in Alpha, leaving one man shot and air lifted to a hospital.
Michael Lykens, 60, of Albany, allegedly shot Derrick Owens of Alpha with a .22 caliber handgun during an altercation.
According to Sheriff Ricky Marcum, the altercation occurred at the residence of Abby Owens, Derrick Owens’ sister.
Marcum said once Lykins was in custody, he was charged with assault in the first degree.
Sheriff Marcum also said Likins had a passenger in his vehicle, Brian Groce. Groce was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
“Owens jumped out the back door and ran down the road to a neighbor’s house,” Marcum said. “We know that because we were able to follow the blood splatter.”
Likens was picked up at his residence on Fairland Cemetery Road.
“We still have a lot of gaps to fill in, but I suspect it could have been some sort of drug deal,” Marcum said. “I think that’s why they aren’t telling us anything.”
Assisting the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department were Albany Police Department and the Kentucky State Police.
