The number of applicants in the running to be the next Clinton County Schools Superintendent is now officially down to three individuals, following action taken Monday night by the Screening Committee which was charged with receiving, reviewing and interviewing applicants for the position.
However, due to the “timing” of the holiday season and scheduling conflicts, the Clinton County Board of Education will apparently be unable to review the applicants and select a new permanent schools chief until January.
The Screening Committee, which originally reviewed eight total applications, had narrowed the field to three candidates and, on Monday night, furthered its study of those individuals and opted to submit them to the full Board of Education, which will ultimately hire a new superintendent.
The committee met in a lengthy closed session on Monday, reviewing the three finalists prior to its decision to present the names to the school board.
Following the closed session, in which potential personnel was involved, committee member Bobbie Stone, who is also the Board of Education member appointed to serve on the board, confirmed the committee’s decision to submit the applicant’s names to the full board.
Although originally a new superintendent was to have been named by the beginning of 2024, due to the holiday season and conflicts in times the committee members and school board members can meet at the same time, Stone said it would likely be early January before the names could officially be submitted at a joint meeting.
Interim Superintendent Boyd Randolph, who has been serving in that position since July 1, had previously announced he would be leaving at the end of this calendar year when a permanent replacement is named.
As of press time, it is unclear if he will remain in the position until the board hires a replacement or if the seat will be vacant until a permanent superintendent is named.
Due to the position involving personnel, all applicant’s names are kept confidential.
The only information regarding the position at this time is that all three finalists for the vacancy are from Kentucky, with one being male and two being female candidates.
The date for the next joint meeting of the screening committee and school board, in which the finalists will be presented (in closed session) will be announced at a later date.
