The Clinton County Bulldogs had a tough week after starting the year 4-0.
Clinton County dropped three games in a row, the first coming at home to neighboring district rival Cumberland County, which was the first loss to the Panthers since 2009. The Dawgs also fell to district rival Russell County on Friday night and lost to regional opponent Todd County in double overtime on Saturday at Barren County in the Don Franklin Barren Hoops Classic.

Clinton County went into Saturday’s game at Barren County with a 4-2 record, facing Todd County with a 2-3 record on the year.
The Dawgs came out and took a quick 2-0 lead in the game, but Todd County responded with a three pointer to lead by one, 3-2.
Both teams got off to a quick start with run and gun style play on both sides of the floor.
The score went back and forth for a few possessions until Clinton County jumped out to an 18-8 lead with 1:04 on the clock on a basket by Nick Poore.
Todd County scored on the next possession to cut the lead to eight points, but Cannon Young made two shots from the line for two of his 22 points, 20-10.
Todd County came out in the second quarter and completely took control, putting together a 13-0 run to take a three point lead over the Dawgs, 23-20.
The Dawgs managed to only put up six points during the period, while Todd County finished the quarter by putting up seven for a total of 20 points for the period.
Todd County led at the half, 30-26.
As the third quarter got underway, Clinton County started chipping away at the Todd County lead, and was up by one at the 6:49 mark on a basket by Young, 32-31.
Both teams went neck and neck for the remainder of the period, but Clinton County managed to maintain a one point edge at the end of the third, 43-42.
During the fourth quarter, it was Todd County regaining the lead in the opening seconds on a field goal, 44-43.
Clinton County’s Young and Steele Burchett hit a field goal and two free throws, respectively, to take a three point lead with 6:40 remaining in regulation, 47-44.
Todd County then went on a 6-0 run to take a three point lead, 50-47.
Clinton County scored at the 4:02 mark to cut the lead to one, then Young hit one of two from the line to tie the score at 50 with 3:35 on the clock.
Todd County then hit two free throws to take a two point edge with 51 seconds remaining, but Cohen Davis tied the score at 52 on a field goal with 22 seconds left.
The Dawgs, as well as Todd County missed opportunities to win the game in the closing seconds, sending the game into the first overtime tied at 52.
In the first overtime, it was Clinton County quickly jumping out to a four point lead, 58-54 with 2:04 on the clock.
Todd County came back on back-to-back possessions and tied the score at 58.
Neither team scored in the final 1:42, despite multiple chances to win the game.
Todd County missed two free throws with 1.2 on the clock and Clinton County grabbed the rebound on the second miss with .8 remaining. The Dawgs called a timeout to set up a play for the win, but failed to put the ball through the hoop, to moving to the second overtime period, 58-58.
Todd County opened the second overtime period with a 6-1 run to lead by five points with 1:15 remaining.
The Dawgs managed to cut the lead to three points, 64-61 with 1:04 remaining.
With 48 seconds remaining, Clinton County went in to stall mode and with 13 seconds remaining, Clinton County missed the chance to add points to the board while Todd County pulled down the rebound, but loses control of the basketball.
Clinton County quickly called a timeout to put a strategy together, but couldn’t convert.
Todd County went to the foul line with eight seconds on the clock and knocked down two shots to extend its lead to four.
With two seconds remaining, Burchett hit a three pointer to cut the lead to two, 66-64. The Dawgs fouled on the inbounds play to keep the clock from running, sending Todd County to the foul line.
Todd County hit one of two to reach a three point lead and what would be the final score as Clinton County couldn’t tie the game on the final play, 67-64.

Clinton County traveled to Russell County on Friday night to finish up the first round of the regular season district play and started off with a quick 3-0 lead on a three pointer by Burchett.
Russell County responded with a field goal and a three pointer for a 5-3 lead.
Poore hit two of two from the foul line at the 5:52 mark to tie the score at five. Both teams went back and forth during the next few minutes and tied the score again at 10.
From that point, it was all Russell County as the Lakers put together a 12-1 run to finish the quarter with a 22-11 lead.
During the second quarter, with Russell County still in control of the game, the Lakers reached a 14 point lead at the 4:02 mark, but a scoring spree by the Dawgs saw two three pointers by Burchett, a putback by Young and a field goal by Burchett to cut the lead to three points, 31-28.
Russell County stopped the bleeding with a three pointer, but Davis hit a three pointer to put the Dawgs to within three points, 34-31.
Russell County finished the half with a field goal and two free throws to lead at the break, 38-31.
After halftime, Clinton County struggled from the floor.
During the third quarter, Russell County got up by as much as 16 points, 56-40 at the 2:26 mark, and finished the quarter with a 13 point lead, 59-46.
Clinton County did battle back in the fourth quarter and managed to cut the lead to four points on a basket by Poore with 54 seconds on the clock, but Russell County was too much in the end and the Dawgs had dug themselves too deep of a hole to climb out of as Russell County took the win, 76-68.

The Clinton County Bulldogs dropped a close game on Tuesday night at The Castle at the hands of the Cumberland County Panthers.
In what was called “Throwback Night,” bringing the Albany Bulldogs and the Marrowbone High Cardinals history to light, Clinton County wore white jerseys with “Albany” on the chest for the event, while Cumberland County wore Marrowbone Cardinals warmup shirts.
The game started off with the Dawgs drawing first blood with a basket by Drew Davis for a quick 2-0 lead.
Cumberland County quickly answered with a basket of its own to tie the score, but a steal and layup by Burchett, followed by a free throw by Cohen Davis, gave the Dawgs a 5-2 lead with 4:20 on the clock.
Cumberland County would finish the quarter with a 12-5 scoring run to led the Dawgs 14-10.
The Panthers opened up the second quarter and continued its scoring run, adding six more points to the board on back-to-back three pointers, 20-10.
Clinton County would battle back through out the eight minute period and cut the lead to one at the half on a 15-6 scoring run, 26-25.
Cumberland County opened the second half with a 7-0 run to take an eight point lead, 33-25, with 3:41 on the clock.
The Dawgs dug deep and managed to put together an 8-0 run to tie the score at 33 with 1:40 on the clock.
The Panthers scored on the next possession to regain the lead, 35-33, but a layup by Cohen Davis tied the score at 35 with 1:14 on the clock in the third period.
The score went back and forth again and was tied at 38 on a three pointer by Cohen Davis with 12 seconds remaining.
Cumberland County took a two point lead into the fourth quarter on a made field goal for a 40-38 advantage.
The final quarter would see the Dawgs struggle from the floor, only putting up 14 points in the fourth quarter alone.
Cumberland County remained in control of the game through out the final period and managed to keep the Dawgs no closer than three points.
By the time the final buzzer sounded, Clinton County had fallen at the hands of the Panthers by a final score of, 58-52.

Clinton County will be back in action this week at the McCreary Invitational at McCreary County.
The Dawgs will play three games in three days beginning on Wednesday and ending on Friday.
