Lady Dawgs win over Campbellsville, 63-41

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs picked up one win this week as a Monday night game at The Castle took place.
Clinton County hosted Campbellsville and was able to grab the 63-41 victory by hitting nine three pointers.

It took a little time for Clinton County to get their feet under them on Monday night against Campbellsville as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead.
The Lady Dawgs managed to cut the lead to two on a shot by Landree Moons, 4-2, but Campbellsville answered with a basket of its own, 6-2.
Later in the quarter, Campbellsville would grab a six point lead, the largest lead of the game for the Lady Eagles, before Clinton County went on a run to seal its fate.
With 40 seconds on the clock in the first quarter, a basket by Chloe Longwell would spark a 21-3 run to see a halftime score of 28-14 in favor of the lady Dawgs.
The Lady Dawgs hit four of their game high nine three pointers in the first half, three coming from Makayla Smith and one from Moons.
The third quarter went much the same way for the Lady Dawgs as Clinton County outscored the Lady Eagles 19-14. Moons had 10 in the quarter, including two three pointers while Smith hit one three pointer and two field goals.
Sadie Ipock rounded out scoring in the third quarter with two free throws for a third quarter score of, 47-28.
Clinton County continued to roll in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Eagles 16-13.
By the time the final buzzer sounded, Clinton County picked up the 63-41 victory, its seventh win of the year.

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs hosted Red Boiling Springs on Saturday during the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic.
The Lady Dawgs started off with a three pointer by Makayla Smith for a quick 3-0 lead, then Red Boiling Springs made a 10-0 run for a 10-3 lead with 2:41 on the clock.
Smith hit another three pointer at the 1:52 mark, but Red Boiling Springs answered with a three pointer of its own, 13-6.
Clinton County’s Chloe Longwell and Sadie Ipock combined with field goal and a free throw respectively to round out scoring in the first quarter.
At the end of the quarter, Clinton County trailed 15-9.
Clinton County managed to chip away at the lead in the second quarter as Landree Moons hit one of two from the line and hit a field goal to cut the lead to three points, 15-12.
Red Boiling Spring hit another three pointer to push the lead out to six, but Moons answered with a three pointer of her own to cut the lead back to three points, 18-15.
Red Boiling Springs went to the line at the 5:01 mark and hit one of two, followed by a three pointer on the next possession to lead 22-15.
Tatum Harlan hit a layup at the 3:19 mark, followed by a layup and free throw by Lexi Messer with 2:10 remaining in the half to cut the lead to two points, 22-20.
Red Boiling Spring remained in the lead at the end of the half, by hitting two from the foul line and a three pointer with 16 seconds on the clock. Ipock rounded out scoring in the quarter for the Lady Dawgs with a layup. Clinton County trailed at the half, 27-22.
During the third quarter, Red Boiling Springs remained in control, living from beyond the arch.
The Lady Dawgs did manage to cut the lead to one point with 1:19 on the clock when Longwell hit a layup on a drive to the goal, 33-32.
Red Boiling Springs hit a three pointer with 1:04 on the clock, but Longwell cut the lead back to two points with 42 seconds remaining, 36-34.
Crista Thacker opened up the fourth quarter with a three pointer to give Clinton County a one point lead, 37-36.
Thacker extended the lead from the foul line hitting one of two, 38-36.
Red Boiling Springs added a three pointer to the board to regain the lead by one, 39-38, but Longwell took back the lead on a field goal with 2:46 remaining in the game, 40-39.
Red Boiling Springs finished the game by putting together a 7-2 run on the Lady Dawgs. Clinton County couldn’t regain the lead as time ran out. The Lady Dawgs lost the contest, 46-42.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Glasgow on Thursday to take on the Lady Scotties.
Tatum Harlan got Clinton County on the board first with a field goal, 2-0, but Glasgow answered with a basket of its own, 2-2.
Glasgow took the lead on a field goal with 5:26 on the clock, while Longwell answered with a field goal to tie the score at four.
On Glasgow’s next possession, the Lady Scotties hit two of two from the line to take a two point lead, 6-4, but a field goal by Ipock tied the score again, 6-6.
Glasgow then went on a 3-0 run to take a 9-6 lead, but then Moons went to work starting at the 3:56 mark.
Moons ended up with her own 10-0 run to give the Lady Dawgs a 16-9 lead.
Glasgow cut the lead to two points with a three pointer and a field goal, 16-14, but Moons went two for two from the foul line to put the Lady Dawgs back up by four points, 18-14.
Glasgow finished the quarter by cutting the Lady Dawgs’ lead to two on a field goal with 10 seconds on the clock, 18-16.
Glasgow continued its run into the second quarter and finished with a 9-0 scoring spree, to lead the Lady Dawgs, 25-18.
Clinton County managed to regain the lead on a 10-2 run, 28-27, but a 6-2 run by Glasgow finished the half with the Lady Scotties on top, 33-30.
The third quarter saw both teams struggling to find the basket. Clinton County managed to put up 13 points in the third quarter, but Glasgow was able to post 15.
By the end of the third, Clinton County trailed the Lady Scotties by five, 48-43.
To start the fourth quarter, Smith and Harlan combined for a 5-0 run to tie the score at 48.
Glasgow answered with a field goal to regain the lead, but a basket by Harlan tied the score again, 50-50.
The Lady Scotties then put together a 6-2 run to take a four point lead.
Moons cut the lead to one with a banking three point bucket, 56-55.
Both teams traded out free throws to reach a score of 57-56 wth 57 seconds remaining in the game.
Glasgow hit two from the line with 11 seconds remaining, 59-56. The Lady Dawgs took two timeouts to plan the final play of the game, but a three pointer by Moons rimmed out at the buzzer for a 59-56 loss for the Lady Dawgs.

Double Overtime

Clinton County traveled to Monroe County on Tuesday, January 30, for the second of two regular season district games.
In the first meeting at The Castle, Clinton County managed to pick up the two point win, 44-42.
Both teams were neck-in-neck early in the first quarter, seeing ties at 7-7, 10-10 and 15-15.
Clinton County managed to get a two point edge at the end of the first on a field goal by Longwell, 17-15.
The Lady Dawgs continued its run in the second quarter as Thacker drained a three pointer, 20-15.
Monroe County hit back-to-back baskets to get to within one point, but a fast break layup by Thacker put the Lady Dawgs up by three. 22-19.
Monroe County tied the score at 22, then a three point shootout went down for both teams as Smith made a three, followed by Monroe County, then Moons hit a three for the Lady Dawgs to lead, 28-25.
The Lady Dawgs won the battle at the half as Smith hit one of two from the foul line to close out the quarter, 29-25.
Monroe County came out after halftime and put up five quick points for a one point lead, 30-29.
Clinton County finished the third quarter outscoring Monroe County 10-6 as Smith hit her fifth three pointer of the game at the end of the third for a three point lead, 39-36.
Clinton County continued to score in the fourth with a three pointer and a putback by Moons to lead by eight, 44-36.
Monroe County managed to put together a 10-2 run to close out the game in regulation tied at 46.
Clinton County failed to get off a last second shot for the win, sending the game into overtime.
Clinton County took the lead early in overtime with a basket by Harlan, 48-46, but Monroe County answered with a field goal of its own to tie the score at 48.
Moons then grabbed the lead on a layup, 50-48, but with two seconds remaining, Monroe County tied the score again at 50 to send the game into double overtime.
In the double overtime period, it was all Monroe to start with a 3-0 run, 53-50.
Thacker grabbed a rebound and a putback to cut the lead to one, but Clinton County fouled, sending the Lady Falcons to the line.
Monroe County hit one of two from the line for a two point lead, 54-52.
The Lady Dawgs failed to score again as Monroe County put up seven points in the double overtime period.
Clinton County lost the contest by a final score of 57-52.

Clinton County will be on the road Thursday as the Lady Dawgs travel to Casey County.
The Lady Dawgs will also be at home on Saturday to host Green County with a 5:30 junior varsity tip off, and will travel to Burkesville on Sunday to take on Cumberland County in a girls’/boys’ double header at 3 p.m.
