Two wins at Cumberland,
the world is right-side up again
It’s been awhile since we came out with double-header wins, and it was awhile in coming this year, with the cancellation and late date makeup Sunday when the Lady Dawgs and Bulldogs traveled across the river to play arch rival Cumberland County.
Clinton County’s Lady Dawgs took off early and never looked back, strolling to a 61-44 “W” over the Lady Panthers, and setting the stage for the possibility of a double-header win afternoon.
In the second game Sunday, the Dawgs certainly didn’t have the easy route the Ladies had, but Clinton County displayed their toughness, hanging on against a hard fighting Panther squad that staged a nearly successful comeback effort.
In the end, Clinton County’s Bulldogs held up their end of a successful double header afternoon of roundball, picking up their own victory, 56-54.
It hadn’t been since the 2020-21 basketball campaign that Clinton County left the Panther Jungle with a pair of wins.

Roundball season is down to the final week
If you take a look at the remaining list of games on this 2023-24 basketball schedule, you’ll only find a handful of games left for each squad as we head toward the closing week of regular season play.
Both teams were slated to host 16th District opponent Russell County on Wednesday of this week, in another matchup that has been shifted and moved due to earlier weather conditions that forced officials from the two school to begin searching for open dates.
After that Wednesday matchup, the Lady Dawgs are set to play four regular season games, while the Bulldogs will hit the regular season hardwood only two more times.
The Lady Bulldogs will host the Lady Rebels of Casey County on Thursday night of this week, then travel to Barren County on Friday night, host Somerset on Monday of next week and finally play host to Wayne County (Senior Night) next Tuesday, February 20. Tip-of against Wayne County is slated for 5:30 p.m.
For the Bulldogs, it’s Barren County on Friday of this week for the double-header matchup, then facing McCreary Central in the Castle next Tuesday, February 20 (Senior Night) for the final regular season play, with an estimated tip-off at 8:00 p.m..
Tuesday’s night of basketball is a double-header night in the Castle, but if you’ll note, the opponents are from different schools.

Frosh Dawgs are playing for a championship
Congratulations to our freshman boys’ basketball team on the opening round win that sends them into the Championship game of this year’s 16th District Freshman Tournament.
The freshman Dawgs will take on Metcalfe County freshman in the title game, at Russell County High, with a slated tip at 4:30 p.m.
Again, congrats to the young Bulldogs and staff, and it bodes well for the future of our roundball program.

Baseball, softball will be here,
probably before fair weather
A host of local sports fans made it out Friday night to enjoy a Valentine’s themed steak dinner that was hosted by the CCHS softball and baseball teams as a fundraiser.
That just serves to remind that despite the weather conditions outside, play on the diamonds is just around the corner.
Haven’t received a final baseball schedule from CCHS Athletic Director Darrell Thompson as of this writing, but he did send a Lady Bat Dawg schedule last week.
The Lady Dawgs are slated to play the first scrimmage of the year on Tuesday, March 7.  First regular game is the following week when we host Pickett County on Thursday, March 14.
More to come as those seasons get closer.

Save the date, Matt and Company are coming back
I ran into my friend Mark Brewington Sunday afternoon while covering the Clinton County – Cumberland County games over in Burkesville, and he shared some good news for local sports fans.
Brewington, who is a manager at Sulphur Creek Marina on Dale Hollow Lake in neighboring Cumberland County, told me that the Kentucky Sports Radio Show, featuring Matt Jones and his crew, is slated to make a return to the marina this summer for another live remote event.
The KSR program did a live remote at Sulphur Creek last summer, and it was a tremendous success, so much so that Brewington has worked to bring the program back to the nearby marina.
Many, if not most, of the crowd on hand last year for the remote were from Clinton County.
Brewington said that the tentative date for the KSR return at Sulphur Creek Marina is Friday, June 21, 2024.
More details as the date nears.
