Lady Dawgs grab district win over Cumberland County, 61-44

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs finished the week with a 1-2 record, but the win was a big one as the Lady Dawgs defeated Cumberland County in a Super Bowl Sunday afternoon game.

Clinton County made the short drive to Burkesville, Kentucky, Sunday afternoon to fulfill a previous game date that was snowed out.
Clinton County and Cumberland County were neck-in-neck throughout the entire first half, with a first quarter score of 12-12 and a halftime score of 25-24 in favor of the Lady Panthers.
In the first quarter, Clinton County saw scoring from four players, including six points from Landree Moons, and two each from Crista Thacker, Sadie Ipock and Chloe Longwell.
During the second quarter, both teams were still matching each other almost point for point as Moons went three for six from the foul line for three points, Ipock went one of two and added a field goal and Makayla Smith knocked down two huge three pointers for six points, but Cumberland County outscored the Lady Dawgs by one to take a one point lead at the half, 25-24. In the first half alone the game had seven ties and seven lead changes.
After halftime is when Clinton County took the game to the next level. With 3:41 on the clock, Moons hit a three pointer from the top of the key and that started a 15-3 run to end the quarter with a 47-37 lead.
Moons finished the third quarter with 14 of her game high 27 points with four three pointers and a two point basket. Smith added two three pointers to the score while Ipock added a putback and Longwell added a free throw.
The Lady Dawgs added to its lead in the fourth quarter by putting up 14 points and holding Cumberland County to only seven.
Ipock scored eight of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, while Moons added two field goals and Tatum Harlan added one field goal for two points.
As a team, Clinton County hit eight three pointers for the game and went five of 10 from the foul line in the 61-44 victory.

Clinton County hosted Green County on Saturday at The Castle, but fell short of the win as the Lady Dragons defeated the Lady Dawgs, 52-45.
In the first quarter, both teams played close throughout as only one point seperated the teams at the end of the first eight minutes, 10-9, with Green County on top.
Green County grabbed a five point lead at the beginning of the second quarter by making back-to-back field goals for a 14-9 lead.
The Lady Dawgs battled back and put together an 8-3 run to tie the game at 17 with 3:25 on the clock.
Green County answered with a 7-0 run to lead 24-17.
Thacker added a field goal at the 1:19 mark, but by the end of the half, Green County took a 10 point lead, 29-19.
Clinton County quickly cut the lead to six points in the third quarter on a free throw by Moons and three pointer from the corner by Smith, 29-23.
Later in the quarter, Green County would push its lead back to 10 points, 38-28, but Clinton County’s Moons and Davis added three points together to trail by only seven at the end of three, 38-31.
During the fourth quarter, Clinton County never gave up even though Green County had reached an 11 point lead and a 15 point lead during the eight minutes of play.
Down 50-35, Clinton County put together a 10-2 run at the end of the period, but the damage had already been done and the Lady Dawgs just simply ran out of time as Clinton County fell, 52-45.

Clinton County traveled to Casey County last week to take on the Lady Rebels.
The Dawgs started off on a good note, grabbing a quick 4-0 lead, but Casey County had other plans and went on a 12-0 run to close out the first quarter, 12-4.
Casey County continued its run into the second quarter, grabbing five more points for a 17-0 run and a score of 17-4.
Moons finally hit a field goal at the 7:09 mark, and followed that up with another layup to cut the lead to 11, 17-6.
The Lady Dawgs’ 7-0 run cut the lead to six points, 17-11, but a 6-0 run by Casey County put the Lady Rebels back up by 12, 23-11.
Clinton County then managed to put together a 9-2 run to finish the half and head into the locker room at halftime with a five point deficit, 25-20.
Casey County came out after halftime and put together an 8-3 run to open the third quarter and regain a 10 point lead, 33-23.
Smith finished the quarter with a three pointer to get the Lady Dawgs back to within eight points, 41-33.
The fourth quarter saw Clinton County fight its way back into the game.
After being down by 11 with 4:25 on the clock, Clinton County managed to cut the lead to three points with 2:36 remaining, 55-52.
In the final seconds, Casey County would seal the deal from the foul line, as well as hitting a layup with three seconds on the clock. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Clinton County couldn’t pull off the win as the Lady Dawgs lost 59-52.

Clinton County was back in action Tuesday night (too late for press deadline), as well as Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights to play Adair County, Russell County, Casey County and Barren County respectively.
Wednesday and Thursday night’s games will be at home with Friday night’s game against Barren County being on the road.
The Lady Dawgs moved to 8-16 on the year.

Landree Moons pulled up for a jumper over Cumberland County’s Kenzie Willen in the first half of Sunday’s game in The Jungle. Moons hit four three pointers in the third quarter and finished with 27 points.
