The Dawgs came up just short in its final home and district game of the year against the Falcons of Monroe County Friday night.
“We came out of the gate hot and played great early, holding a 22-6 lead with about 20 seconds to go in the first half,” Head Coach Rocky Tallent said. “Our offense once again moved the ball at will against a stout Monroe County defense. Defensively we got stops and only gave up one big play in the first half to that point. We really had the ballgame in hand and where we wanted it at that point. Monroe County’s quarterback extended the play and ended up throwing a Hail Mary pass to end the half and gave Monroe a lot of momentum going into the locker room as we lead 22-14. I thought that was a pivotal point in the game. Their team is not built to play from behind and having a two-score lead would have been huge.”
In the second half, Monroe County struck quick and had a reverse run go for a touchdown to tie the game.
“We had a really bad third quarter and that ended up being the difference. We had some players banged up at the half and played with such heart that we simply ran out of gas in the second half,” Tallent said. “Monroe County was a quality opponent who just kept coming and in the end, a play here and there, we just couldn’t overcome that and they walked off Bulldog Field with a district title. I was extremely proud of our effort on both sides of the ball as we moved the ball well all night other than the third quarter and held Monroe County in check defensively most of the night.”
Monroe County was preseason number one in the district.
“Overall it was an outstanding effort for our Dawgs and we hope to see Monroe again in the playoffs,” Tallent said.
The Dawgs were lead by Jaxson Mason who was 21-43 for 348 yards four touchdowns and three interceptions through the air.
Jadon Kinney had a solid game on the ground with 18 carries for 80 yards. On the receiving end of Mason’s passes, Clinton County was lead by Will Beaty with 14 catches for 257 yards and three touchdowns, Kasyn Massengale with four catches for 77 yards and one touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Clinton County was lead by Mason McDainel with 18 tackles, three tackles for a loss, Austin Arms 12 tackles, two tackles for a loss, Caden Poore with 10 tackles, two tackles for a loss and one forced fumble, Levi Wray added six tackles, two tackles for a loss, and a sack.
“We also saw some records fall Friday night as Mason set the single season passing record for a season with 2,267 yards. Will Beaty set the single game record for receptions with 14, and the single game record for receiving yardage with 257 yards,” Tallent said.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday night against the Pirates of Berea at Berea. The Dawgs will be in the playoffs the following Friday night, November 8, against Washington County at Washington County.
