Clinton jury convicts Phelps on sex charges, recommends 45 years

Clinton Circuit Court came to order on December 18, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. for the trial of Commonwealth vs. Jaywreye Phelps, Clinton Indictment No. 24-CR-00027. Phelps was indicted by the Clinton Grand Jury on April 11, 2024, for the charge of sexual abuse 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age, KRS 510.110 and sodomy 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age, KRS 510.070.
This case proceeded to a jury trial December 18, 2024. The Commonwealth being represented by Hon. Jesse M. Stockton, Jr. and Hon. Ann Marie Gordan Anderson, and the Defendant being represented by Department of Public Advocacy conflict attorney, Strack Law, LLC, Hon. Louis Strack.
The jury of Clinton County, Kentucky, found the defendant, Jaywreye Phelps, guilty of sexual abuse 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age, and sodomy 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age. The defendant received a sentence of ten (10) years for the charge of sexual abuse 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age and received a sentence of thirty-five (35) years for the charge of sodomy 1st degree, victim under 12 years of age. The ten (10) year sentence and the thirty-five (35) year sentence are consecutive, for a total sentence of forty-five (45) years to serve.
Final sentencing will take place on March 6, 2025, Clinton Circuit Court at 9:00 a.m.
