Lady Dawgs, Bulldogs
will play in 16th District
Tuesday at Russell Co.
The Clinton County Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are now set to play in the 16th District Tournament as regular season games wrap up this week.
As is for both teams, the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will play on the same night, but will face different opponents in the opening round.
The Lady Dawgs will tip off around 6 p.m. Tuesday night, February 21, at Russell County gymnasium to take on the number two seed, Russell County.
The Bulldogs will follow the Lady Bulldogs’ game, with a tip off around 7:45 p.m. against Cumberland County.
The Bulldogs secured the number two seed when a district meeting was held Thursday, February 9, to flip a coin for the number one seed.
Russell County won the coin toss as Clinton County Coach Todd Messer told the NEWS that tails was picked for Clinton County. When the coin was flipped, heads was showing giving Russell County the number one seed in the district.
The tie for the top seeded position resulted after both Clinton and Russell counties finished the regular season with 5-1 records, splitting regular season games between the two teams.
Clinton County won the first game at home on December 16, 63-48, but lost the second meeting at Russell County on February 6, 73-65.
Russell County will host Metcalfe County on Monday night for the second game of the double header at 7:45 p.m.
Cumberland County finished its regular season district play with a record of 2-4, securing the number three seed.
Metcalfe County, 0-6 in district play, will take on host Russell County on Monday night, February 20.
The Lady Dawgs will take on Russell County at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21. The Lady Lakers finished the regular season with a 5-1 record, tying with Metcalfe County, although Metcalfe County and Cumberland County played an extra game during the season, pushing Metcalfe’s record to 6-1 in district play.
The ruling is after each team has played all other teams twice, the district pairings are final and no other games will be counted toward district records for seeding purposes.
The Lady Lakers lost the coin toss held on Thursday, February 9, to secure the number two seed.
Clinton County earned the number three seed by defeating Cumberland County in both meetings during the regular season.
Cumberland County finished its district play at 0-6.
The Lady Dawgs will take on Russell County after having lost both regular season games with the first one coming on December 16, 2011, 57-41, and the second match up on January 19, 41-33.
After the first round, winning teams will play in the championship game with the girls’ game to be held on Thursday, February 23 at 7 p.m. and the boys’ game on Friday, February 24, at 7 p.m.
