Dawgs cage Panthers, grab 40 point win, 75-35

DSC_4722.jpgThe Clinton County Bulldogs made up a game this week against Cumberland County that was originally scheduled for January 11.

After it was all said and done, the game had been rescheduled several times due to weather conditions, but finally the game was moved to Saturday night and was a win for the Bulldogs, 75-35.

At the beginning of the game, Clinton County seemed to struggle a little, but nothing to cause any alarm to the fans watching.

Cumberland County led early in the game 5-2. The Bulldogs got to within one point on two free throws by Colby Langford, but a basket by Cumberland County extended the Panthers’ lead to three points, 7-4.

Wayne Stearns hit a three pointer to tie the score, but Cumberland County hit a basket with six minutes on the clock to regain the lead, 9-7.

At the 5:44 mark, Wendell Maupin hit two free throws to tie the score at nine, and start a 7-0 run to lead 14-9.

Cumberland County cut the lead to two points after a three pointer found its way inside the goal, but a basket by Maupin and a three pointer by Langford extended the Bulldogs’ lead to seven points with 1:31 on the clock.

Cumberland County would score two more points before the quarter ran out to finish the first period with a five point Bulldog lead, 19-14.

As the second quarter got underway, Clinton County began to run the ball more on offense.

The Bulldogs put together a 11-4 run to start the quarter with two baskets by Stearns, a three pointer by Ryan Beard and a field goal by Dalton, 30-16.

The Bulldogs added six more points to the board by halftime, to lead the game 36-22.

As the third quarter got underway, Clinton County kept the Panthers beyond arms length. The Bulldogs reached a 16 point lead at the 6:45 mark when Dalton was fouled on a shot. Dalton hit the field goal, but was unable to convert the three point play, 40-24.

Cumberland County never got into the game during the second half and Clinton County led the game at the end of the third quarter by 16 points.

With the score 49-33, Clinton County’s defense went crazy, holding the Panthers to only one field goal for the remainder of the game.

Every player wearing a Clinton County uniform got into the game and into the score book by scoring at least two points.

Clinton County’s 26 fourth quarter points finalized the game with a 40 point win over the Panthers, 75-35.

Clinton County’s next matchup will be Saturday night as the Bulldogs host Logan County. The game will be a girls/boys varsity matchup with the girls game tipping off around 5 p.m., with the boys game to immediately follow.

Clinton County improves its record to 14-6 on the year.
