The winning essays in the annual “Grandparent of the Year” essay contest have been announced and the winning authors, along with their respective grandparent, were honored last week at a luncheon.
Sponsored locally by the Clinton County Retired Teacher’s Association, the contests is held across Kentucky and is sponsored by the AARP Kentucky and the Kentucky Retired Teacher’s Association.
The group was treated to lunch at Lee’s Famous Recipe last week, where the winning authors read their essays during the monthly meeting of the Clinton County Retired Teacher’s Association.
The contest involves 5th grade students and the local winner will also now be competing on a district basis, with district winners to move on to the state competition.
Madison Ravellette, above left, submitted the winning essay in this year’s local competition. She is shown with the subject of her winning entry, “Pa Jack” , also known as Jack Albertson. The second place winner, Alexis Roberts, is shown with her grandmother, Ramona Roberts. Third place winner Shealyn Wolfe, right, is shown with her grandmother, Cindy Wolfe.
In addition to the photo above, as has become a long-time tradition, the winning essays are published each year in the Clinton County News.
