A tractor-trailer truck hauling ammonium nitrate, acidic acid and blasting caps overturned a week ago Tuesday morning, March 27 on Hwy. 61, six miles south of Columbia, at approximately 6:51 a.m. leaving a portion of the highway closed for several hours.

According to Kentucky State Police, ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel leaked from the truck leading to the closure of Hwy. 61 from the old Sparksville School to the Breeding Community. A detour was established with the use of Hwy. 533, Chestnut Grove Road and KY 80.

The Environmental Protection Agency and Kentucky Emergency Operations Office were notified. Emergency Management and the Breeding Fire Department assisted.
