A Russell Springs man has been convicted of second degree manslaughter for the February 15, 2011 death of 38 year old Sherri Vibbert in Russell County Circuit Court last Friday.

Ricky Simpson, then 28, was driving a Ford van on East Hwy. 80 near Bolin Rd. under the influence of oxycodone when he crashed head on into the Dodge van being driven by Vibbert.

Vibbert was flown from the scene to UK Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Two children and two other adults were injured in the incident.

Along with the conviction of manslaughter, Simpson was also convicted of second degree assault, first degree endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Simpson was sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
