The annual PRIDE Spring Cleanup continues through the end of April across the eastern and south central Kentucky area, including here in Clinton County. It’s not too late to volunteer to help keep the roadways in the county clean in time for the tourist season, which typically begins in heavy fashion during the month of May.
Another cleanup to one of the most pristine areas of south central Kentucky is also being planned just in time for the tourist season, that being the annual Dale Hollow Spring Cleanup, which will take place this coming Saturday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Local and area residents can make the drive to the lake more attractive by volunteering to pick up roadside litter. Safe, age-appropriate cleanup areas will be available for groups with children, such as schools or churches.
All volunteers will receive a T-shirt and free lunch and will be entered into a drawing for door prizes, including one-day pontoon rentals from Hendrick’s Creek Resort and Sulphur Creek Resort.
“The new Dale Hollow Cleanup was an overwhelming, successful addition to Cumberland County’s Spring Cleanup last year, and we invite volunteers of all ages to join us this year,” said Cumberland County Judge/Executive John A. Phelps, Jr. “We have a beautiful community and we need to continue to keep it clean.”
“It is so important that we keep this area appealing to our out of town visitors,” said Tuesday Davis, Clinton County PRIDE Coordinator. “Trash in the ditches may give them a reason to go somewhere else. Clean, scenic roads will help keep them coming back.”
“This is such a popular recreation site for locals and destination spot for tourists, it is the ideal spot for a cleanup by volunteers who take price in their communities,” said PRIDE’s Tammie Wilson.
“When we all work together for just a few hours, we accomplish a great deal,” Wilson said. “Last year, we picked up 615 bags of trash in just two hours, and then we enjoyed a picnic together.”
On April 14, volunteer registration will begin at 9 a.m. at these locations: Hendrick’s Creek Dock, Sulphur Creek Dock, Wisdom Dock, Wolf River Dock and Dale Hollow State Resort Park’s picnic area.
At registration, volunteers will be directed to an area to clean. They will receive trash bags, gloves and safety vests.
At noon, volunteers will gather for a free cook-out at the picnic area at Dale Hollow State Resort Park. The door prize drawing will be held during the cook-out.
The partners organizing the Dale Hollow Lake Cleanup are the Cumberland County Fiscal Court, Clinton County Fiscal Court, Dale Hollow State Resort Park, PRIDE, Hendrick’s Creek Resort and Sulphur Creek Resort.
