TURNOVERS

Clinton/Pickett basketball in the future?

For the past few years, the Clinton County / Pickett County basketball match-ups have been on the back burner, for a number of reasons, all related to situations that happened in the past that we won’t go into here.

Now, after a couple of years of being off the schedule, talks are once again on the table about the possibility of getting a game back on the schedule.

I was privy to be in attendance at a meeting last week between the two schools, and can report to fans that the meeting was a productive one, and when everyone left, it appeared that if final details can be worked out, a game could return to the schedules in the form of a single game that would include a challenge trophy to be claimed on a year to year basis for both girls and boys, as well as the possibility of a banquet for the student athletes prior to the games being played.

More as the details become finalized.

Hopefully these “spring winters” will turn loose soon.

This has certainly been a strange spring with an early summer like start, then in the past few weeks, the return of cooler and wet conditions have sent everyone back inside.

Hopefully, with the normal seven winter seasons nearly behind us, we’ll be storing the sweatshirts and long jeans in a week or two, and moving back outside to the warm spring activities in a few weeks.

As for our water sports, the warm start a few weeks ago did bring out some early water sports enthusiasts. On a recent weekend trip to Dale Hollow, I saw at least one person on water skis, and several working their wakeboard skills on our north-east end of the lake already.

If gas prices stabilize before the actual start of the tourism season – around Memorial Day – then I would expect we’ll see another busy spring on the lakes – which also means on the local roads also.

I have to admit that I haven’t spent much time watching our spring athletes this season, but I have made a few circles around the parking lots during game times and the crowds seem to be very good. I’ve left spring sports coverage to Brett this year but I am still urging fans to “do as I say, not as I do” and get out to the CCHS spring sports complex before the seasons come to an end and get behind these spring athletes. It’ll be over before you know it.

Dawg Walk-Run this Saturday

As I mentioned last week, and here’s another reminder for everyone with two good legs, a fundraising event coming up on the calendar is the “Dawg Walk-Run” that is scheduled for this Saturday on April 28.

Benefiting the Clinton County High School Volley Dawgs, the Run/Walk gets underway at the high school at 8:00 a.m., and has a $15 entry fee with all runners being given a T-shirt. Sign-ups begin that morning at 7:00 a.m.
