Al Gibson, right, is shown above with Clinton County High School Athletic Director Mike Beard after Gibson was presented with the Dr. Rudy J. Ellis Distinguished Service Award last week.

The award was presented to Gibson at the annual awards banquet of the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association that was held at Papa John’s Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky last week.

The award is presented to volunteers who are associated with high school athletic programs in their respective communities.

In addition to his support of Clinton County High School athletics through the Clinton County News, Gibson has worked as a volunteer in several areas for the athletic program, including having served for the past 34 seasons as the public address announcer at home basketball games.

He also helped to organize and served as the first president of the Basketball Boosters Club at C.C.H.S., and helped to organize the first Booster Club Radio Auction some 30 years ago. He continues to serve as an on-the-air co-host for that program each year.

Gibson was nominated for the award by Beard and was one of four recipients of the Ellis award for 2012. The award has been presented by the association on an annual basis since 1993.
