A Jamestown teenager died last Friday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a head-on crash last Wednesday, according to Kentucky State Police.
Tanner Mann, 17, was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner’s office at approximately 2 p.m. a week ago Friday, police said.
The wreck last Wednesday afternoon in Jamestown sent Mann and two other local teenagers, who are seniors at Russell County High School, to the UK Medical Center in Lexington via emergency helicopters.
State Trooper Adam Likins investigated the collision that occurred around 3:35 p.m. five miles south of Jamestown on Warriner Ridge Road.
A state police report shows that 18-year-old Chad Kelsay of Jamestown was driving a 2001 Chevrolet south on Warriner Ridge Road when he topped a hill, crossed the center line and struck a north bound vehicle, a 2001 Honda being driven by Mann. Kelsay and a passenger, 18-year-old Josh Lawless of Jamestown along with Mann were all flown to the UK Medical Center, each in their own individual emergency helicopters which responded to the scene.
Mann was not belted and it is unknown if Kelsay and Lawless were belted, according to the state police.
Kelsay and Lawless have undergone several surgeries for their injuries with an extended recovery time expected.
Along with the state police, members of the Jamestown Fire Department as well as the Russell County EMS responded as did Deputy Clete McAninch with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.

With the primary election now less than two weeks away, a shake up occurred earlier last week in the race for the 15th District senatorial seat which covers Russell, Pulaski, Casey and Adair counties and has been held for many years by retiring Sen. Vernie McGaha.
Casey County insurance agent Todd Hoskins withdrew from the race a week ago Monday afternoon and put his support behind Pulaski County businessman, clergyman and lawyer Mark Polston. Soon after Hoskins’ withdrawal, Sen. McGaha, too, endorsed Polston in the upcoming Republican primary. The two endorsements would seem to be a boost for Polston’s campaign late in the race.
The departure of Hoskins from the race leaves three candidates still vying for the spot in the state senate with Polston, Pulaski County lawyer and businessman A.C. Donahue, and Chris Girdler, a member of Congressman Hal Roger’s staff, in the Pulaski County office.
