A local resident was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Taylor County Saturday, May 5. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on US 68, one mile east of Campbellsville.
According to Kentucky State Police, Justin Atwood, 19, of Campbellsville, driving a 2009 Nissan, attempted to pass a vehicle and pulled into the path of an eastbound 2006 Jeep, striking it head-on. Both vehicles overturned and came to rest on the south side of the roadway.
The Jeep was operated by Lauren Dyer, 21, of Burkesville. Dyer was wearing her seat belt and was transported to Taylor County Regional Hospital and later transported by ambulance to UK Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Atwood and his passenger, Jade M. Sullivan, 17, also of Campbellsville, were pronounced dead at the scene. They were not wearing seat belts.
