Spring sports comes to an end

Our Clinton County Lady Bat Dawgs were the longest surviving of the Spring Sports teams, advancing into this week’s 4th Region Tournament at Bowling Green.

The Lady Bat Dawgs saw their season come to an end on Memorial Day, with a 10-6 loss at the hands of Franklin Simpson Monday.

Still, it was another good year for Coach Darrell Thompson and his team, finishing the season with a very impressive 28-11 overall record and a trip to the regionals.

Congrats team on a nice season.

So, with the end of the Spring Sports regionals comes a little break from high school sports. Of course the football team will be getting ready for the fall season, and the basketball teams will be working in summer games and open gym night, but the pace slows for a couple of months, anyway.

Up next, for the CCHS athletes, we’ll see our Golf Dawgs practicing and getting their seasons underway in the late summer, followed by volleyball, football, soccer and cross country.

For now – take a few weeks off.

Youth League baseball

There have been some nice crowds on hand at Mountain View Rec Park as the local Youth League baseball and softball teams go through their season games. If you are a baseball fan, and enjoy some eager players, then the action is some of the most entertaining around. Stop by and enjoy an afternoon at the baseball field.

Lake crowds were big

Spent the weekend on Dale Hollow and the crowd there was what would best be described as heavy but manageable. Made one quick trip out to the main part of the lake, and a couple of trips to the cliffs area near Shear Pin Pass. If this crowd is an indication of how the summer is going to go – expect a busy one.

Fishing for kids.

Just a short note about the upcoming annual fishing derby at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery just across the Clinton-Russell boundary below Wolf Creek Dam.

The 26th Annual Kids Fishing Derby – aka Catch a Rainbow, is set to be held Saturday, June 2. An all-day event, fishing gets underway at 9:00 a.m. for the youngest, and continues through the early afternoon hours for the oldest kids participating.
