Summer is time for sports camp
Summers are shorter for youth than they used to be, and already, the summer sports camps for the “players to be” are nearly over.
The Bulldogs’ basketball camp was a couple of weeks ago, the Lady Dawgs camp is being held this week, and in just a couple of weeks, the Lady Volley Dawgs will be holding their three-day skills camp.
Those are the camps held for the younger, aspiring athletes, that include instruction
Whew – seems like we’ve only been out of school for a couple of weeks now – wait, we have only been out of school for a couple of weeks.
But unlike years past, when school is out, things are far from over for high school athletes. The basketball summer schedule is almost as busy as the regular schedule this winter, with league games, open gym and team camps. Football summer camp and summer practice is just around the corner. Cheerleaders have had their camp this week and likely are headed to more summer instructional camps. High school golfers have the option of competing on amateur tours throughout the summer to hone their skills before team practice sessions begin.
It might seem like too much at times, but across the board, it’s the norm, and in order to stay competitive, it’s a fast pace that has to be done. Got to commend the players, coaching staffs and the parents for giving up most of their summer vacations just to keep their game on top of things.
