There will apparently be more changes in faces and leadership positions on the Clinton County Rec/Park Board late this summer or early fall. Park Board member and long-time chairman Chris Lovelace announced to some board members last Thursday evening, May 31 that he plans to resign from the board at the end of August.
The Park Board was scheduled to have met last Thursday at the park, however, no official meeting was held as only five members–including Lovelace–were on hand, so there wasn’t enough members to constitute a quorum to conduct official business.
The board, with members Vince Ostertag, Paula Little, Wayne Glover and Leland Hicks, as well as Park Director Bobby Reneau, did have an impromptu discussion on some matters with no action being taken.
It was at the conclusion of the discussion on other issues that Lovelace told the members on hand that he planned to resign from the board, effective August 31.
Lovelace, who has been a member of the park board since its creation in the 1990s, has served for the past several years as chairman.
He cited family reasons and lack of time to put into the park work as his reasons for having to step down. He noted that other than his full-time job, he routinely had to help take care of his parents and grandmother on a daily basis and didn’t have to time to put into the position on the park board.
He also noted that the park board was one of a few positions he has had to resign from in recent months.
Lovelace asked the members on hand last week to begin discussion among themselves who they would choose as a replacement as board chairman. He also added that he chose the timing for his resignation so he could be available to assist at the park during its busiest fundraiser, that being the U.S. 127 Sale the first weekend of August.
In recent months, at least two others board members have announced resignations and new members will have to be named to fill those slots.
Although no action could be taken, Ostertag presented the board with the monthly treasurer’s report. Apparently concession sales, despite a lack of little league teams this year, has been going well over the past few weeks.
The board did discuss some apparent issues with Pepsi, which supplies the drinks for sales at the park. Some board members seem to believe they are paying the company too much for their products and discussed possibly renegotiating a contract with Pepsi, or possibly even advertising for bids for soft drinks and related items for the park.
Reneau also gave a brief buildings and grounds update and the members discussed the ongoing little league season and a possible co-ed softball league prior to disbursing.
The next regular meeting of the Clinton County Rec/Park Board is scheduled for Thursday, June 28 at 6 p.m. at Mountain View Park and is open to the general public.
