Clinton Fiscal Court held a special call meeting Tuesday morning with four of the five current members now on the court being present. Magistrate Phillip Parrigin was unable to attend the early morning session, which lasted just over an hour with little action being taken.
Only two items of business was on the agenda, including a late (fiscal) year budget transfer.
The court, on a motion by Magistrate Mickey Riddle, unanimously approved a fund transfer into the jail account in the amount of $30,000 as presented by County Treasurer Dallas Sidwell.
Judge/Executive Lyle Huff then entertained a motion to enter into closed session on personnel at 8:03 a.m., noting the discussions could take some time. The court voted 3-1 to enter into executive session on personnel, with Magistrate Larry Hatfield voting no, saying he didn’t believe much in closed door sessions.
The court was in closed session for a little over an hour, at one point calling in Emergency Services Director Lonnie Scott and Treasurer Sidwell into the meeting for discussion.
Upon returning to open session, Judge Huff announced that no action had been taken and no official action following the closed session on personnel was taken by the court members. (Magistrate Patty Guinn had to leave the meeting prior to adjournment due to her work schedule.)
In a non-related issue pertaining to the meeting, Judge Huff said Governor Steve Beshear has yet to name a replacement for 5th District Magistrate Charlotte Bernard, who resigned the position a month ago, on May 14. Huff also said he didn’t know when the governor may actually fill that vacancy.
Earlier this year, when 3rd District Magistrate Willard Johnson resigned his seat, the governor named a replacement through November (Magistrate Hatfield) within two weeks after Johnson’s resignation.
The next regular meeting of Clinton Fiscal Court is scheduled for next Thursday, June 21 at 5 p.m. and is open to the general public.
