Officer Jim Guffey of the Albany Police Department received information about an active meth lab in the Alpha Community on Friday, June 15, 2012. Chief Ernest Guffey put together a team consisting of Sgt. Ricky Marcum, officers Guffey and Cross of the Albany Police Department and contacted the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department for a coordinated effort in the location and the take down of the meth lab.

Officers Marcum, Guffey, Cross and Randy Honeycutt of the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement met with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, devised a plan and proceeded to the suspected location.

Upon arrival, one subject jumped and fled out the back door, identified as Derrick Owens of the Alpha Community. After a lengthy foot chase, Officer Cross apprehended Owens and he was brought back to the residence.

A consent to search the residence was obtained from the owner which resulted in a total of six labs, two active and four inactive being found. Derrick Owens of Alpha, Rye Miller and Alisha Decker of Wayne County were charged with the Manufacture of Methamphetamine and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center. The case is being carried by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
