Gary Abbott will serve as superintendent of Monticello Independent Schools an additional two years, following action taken by the Monticello School Board during their meeting on July 16. The board voted to extend the superintendent’s contract by two years.
Board members discussed the matter last month when they conducted an evaluation of the superintendent. They gave Abbott a favorable evaluation, but did not vote to extend his contract at that time. Instead, they decided to wait until September when test scores are released before making a decision.
During their regular monthly meeting Monday evening, the board discussed the matter once again when board member Bill Denney made the motion to extend the superintendent’s contract. Upon discussion, the motion passed with board members Denney, Nancy Duncan, Shelia Stephenson and Chris Dobbs voting in favor. Board member Jerry Lair voted no on the matter.
