TURNOVERS

Slow in the local sports world, but that’s about to change

As I mentioned last week, things are a bit slow right now in the local sports world, with fall sports at the schools just now in the practice stages and none of the seasons yet underway.

Golf, volleyball and soccer will be up first in high school seasons, followed by football and then cross country, which is the last fall sport in the lineup to get underway and to finish.

At this juncture, schedules are still being finalized for some of the sports, with matches still being added and dates being tweaked, but we have been given some scheduling information from CCHS Athletic Director Mike Beard – as he has it available at press time.

So, the information we have right now shows that golf will get underway even before the start of the 2012-13 school year with the Golf Dawgs playing in the Cumberland County Invitational next Monday, July 30, at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park.

The Lady Golf Dawgs will hold their first match on Tuesday, July 31, going up against Adair and Cumberland County at DHLSRP. The Golf Dawgs travel to take on Warren East on Saturday, August 4, then return home for a double-header with the Lady Golf Dawgs at Dale Hollow facing Metcalfe and Cumberland County on August 7.

Boys soccer is set to get underway next Thursday, although that time and location has not yet been finalized. The first game that currently appears finalized on the schedule sees the varsity team traveling to Taylor County on August 13, with the first home match slated for August 14 against Barren County (5:30).

Girls soccer gets underway August 6 with a scrimmage at Glasgow, and the season opener being an away game at Whitley County on August 16 (5:30). The first home match at this time is slated for August 18 against Butler County at 10:00 a.m.

The volleyball season gets started with a tournament appearance in Barren County August 10-11, with the first home match for the Volley Dawgs to be against Cumberland County on August 13 (5:00).

Clinton County’s football season is set for an August 17 start when the Gridiron Dawgs take on Wayne County in a home game with a slated 7:00 p.m. scheduled kickoff – I’m expecting tailgating activities would get underway around 5:30.

Calm now – but I told you it was going to get busy.

More schedules will be released in the next few weeks as they become finalized.
