The Clinton County Bulldogs won two games last week at the Riverside Prep Showcase in Jackson, KY., and made quick work of Monticello High School on Tuesday night, 62-39, after both teams resolved a minor altercation that resulted in two technical fouls.
The first game of the Riverside Prep Showcase saw Clinton County break the 100 mark for the ninth time in Bulldog’s history, as they defeated Jenkins, 100-32.
The last time the Clinton County Bulldogs scored more than 99 points was December 8, 2001 against Lynn Camp. The Dawgs scored 112 in that game.
Every Bulldog on the bench saw a lot of action and all of Clinton County’s players got into the record book by scoring points.
The most noteable stat of the game, was eighth grader Keifer Dalton adding 15 assists for the game. That stat is a career high for Dalton as well as a record high for the Clinton County Bulldogs for number of assists in one game. The record was held by Tim Moons who had 14 assists on December 19, 1997, against Rockcastle County.
Clinton County also defeated Allen Central in the second game of the showcase, 55-46, to move to 18-6 on the year.

Monticello 39
During the first half of Clinton County’s home matchup against neighboring Monticello, the Bulldogs were on a very fast paced mission. Although Clinton County’s shooting was well below what the team was capable of, the Bulldogs opened the game with a 17-6 first quarter lead.
Will Parrish drained a three pointer at the beginning of the second quarter to put the Bulldogs up 20-6, but Monticello wasn’t finished. The Trojans put together a 15-0 run to take a one point lead, 21-20, with 2:04 remaining in the half.
Dalton hit a basket to break Clinton County’s scoring drought, followed by a three pointer by Wayne Stearns to lead, 25-21.
Monticello hit a shot with 26 seconds on the clock to cut the lead to two points, 25-23.
Monticello had the ball with the final possession of the half, but the attempt to tie the game failed. The rebound came to Colby Langford well after the buzzer sounded. As both teams came off the bench for halftime, Kevin Simpson of Monticello and Colby Langford exchanged words followed by a push by Simpson. Players from both teams came out onto the floor, as well as coaches and school officials to calm the players down. After the altercation occurred, fans from Monticello came out onto the floor. The altercation resulted in technical fouls on both Simpson and Langford.
Referees gathered as both teams went to the locker rooms and came to the conclusion that since the buzzer sounded, the half was over and the benches were in the process of heading to the locker rooms when the altercation broke out.
During the second half, Clinton County’s defense held strong, only allowing Monticello two free throws for the third period.
Clinton County finished the quarter by scoring 21 points to reach a 46-25 lead.
During the third quarter, in an attempt to get control of the game, referees Ryan Craft, Tommy Young and Scot Daniels called 18 fouls in the third quarter alone.
The trio only called 17 in the first two periods combined.
As Clinton County started the final period, Langford hit two foul shots for a 48-25 lead.
Monticello then hit three straight from the line to cut the lead to 20 points, but a three pointer and two free throws by Stearns, followed by a basket by Frank England, put the Bulldogs up by 27 points, 55-28, with 5:30 on the clock.
The remainder of the game was pretty much fought from the foul line. Almost every player off the bench for Clinton County scored, including a free throw by Derek Albertson, and the final basket of the game for Clinton County by Ethan Cook.

“With Jenkins, it was really nice that as a team we came out ready to play and we put away a team that we were clearly better than,” Messer said. “We wanted to make sure that we gave everyone who works hard day in and day out a chance to get some minutes.”
All of Clinton County’s players got to see some action in Friday night’s game. Messer said he was pleased at how well his team shared the ball with one another.
“I was really happy with how we shared the basketball,” Messer said. “We did a really good job of sharing, thus is why we shot 70 percent for the game.”

The Clinton County Bulldogs took on Allen Central Saturday night in the Riverside Prep Showcase in a game that took a little more effort from the older Bulldogs.
Messer said Allen Central had one of the better defenses he and his team has come up against this season and he told the Dawgs if they wanted to win, they would have to win on the boards.
“I thought our kids played really well. We didn’t start Will (Parrish) in that game after he suffered an ankle injury against Jenkins. We were even younger than we usually are,” Messer said. “I thought our kids stepped up nicely in his absence. He did come in during the fourth quarter when things got a little touchy in the end to give us a big lift to provide us with the toughness we needed.”
