TURNOVERS

Gridiron Dawgs open this Friday

Although almost all of our local fall sports teams – the Golf Dawgs and Lady Golf Dawgs, Volley Dawgs and the Soccer Dawgs have seen schedules already in play now in the CCHS 2012 fall sports lineup, for many fall sports fans, things don’t seem to really get going until this weekend.

That’s when our Gridiron Dawgs take to the field to get the 2012 football season off and running.

Clinton County will join high school football programs across Kentucky this Friday night in getting the 2012 season underway. For the Dawgs, it comes with a hosting of our neighbors to the east – the Cardinals of Wayne County.

While the Dawgs are competing in Class 2A, this first opponent is in the 3A class, giving Clinton County a real test of what we might can expect early in the campaign.

Wayne County is coming off of a 9-3 season in 2011. The Cards saw their season end last year in the second round of the state playoffs, losing to Bell County 6-58.

Clinton County’s first road game will see the Bulldogs travel to Trimble County, Kentucky for the second game of the season on August 24. Get the gas tank filled – Trimble County (Bedford, Kentucky), is on the Ohio River, to the north of Jefferson County (Louisville).

Bulldog fans will get a travel break for a month or so this season, with a four-game home stand that begins in the middle of September and continues through the first week of October.

Back to the start of this 2012 Friday Night Lights season against Wayne County. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the gates are expected to open for tailgating at about 5:30. The weather is supposed to be fantastic with a cold front moving through the area that should put a nip of fall in the air – just in time for the start of this 2012 football season.

Good luck Dawgs!

Fall sports preview

As you have surely already noticed, included with this week’s issue is the annual look at the squads and teams that we will be covering this season in our Fall Sports Preview special section.

Because of the number of teams involved, and the fact that most of the pre-season prep work takes place well before the start of the actual school year, this particular special section can take on a whole new meaning in terms of challenging to put together.

The photography work and editorial work covering the team were the sole project of Brett Gibson on this project, and once again, he has done a great job of giving our fans an early look at the athletes, coaches and schedules in this fall season. Credit for the advertising content in this special section also goes out to News staffers Sonja Carrow and Stacy Shelley who did a fantastic job also.

We hope you enjoy and by all means, get out and support these teams that work hard to represent our county and school in these fall sports. They deserve the support of their community.
