Last season, Clinton County opened up its season against Wayne County and this year’s outcome wasn’t much different.
Wayne County defeated Clinton County 49-0 last year and this year’s final was 52-6. With Wayne County being a 3A school, expereince definately played a factor in the game.
“Right now, Wayne County is a very established program and we have yet to reach that,” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “I do think their depth is a big factor, especially late in the game. We are not on their level yet. Maybe in 10 to 12 years we will be. Wayne County is a very good 3A school and we are a very small 2A school.
The Bulldogs haven’t won a game since September 18, 2009, against Caverna, a team on this year’s schedule.
One plus for the Bulldogs defense in the Wayne County game was Dillon Wood got a sack against the Cardinals in the first half.
“He had a nice sack,” Miller said. He got to the quarterback and slung him around like a doll. Just to know they can do that against a team the caliber of Wayne County, it will be better against teams we can compete with.”
The Bulldogs’ next opponent will come Friday night against Trimble County.
Clinton County almost came off with a win last season against Trimble County, only losing by one point, 14-13.
“Looking at the film after the game, it made me sick,” Miller said. “We turned the ball over five times in the first half and two more in the second with an interception last year. It’s going to be hard to beat a little league program with seven turnovers. I went for two at the end of that game last year and if I had it to do over, I would do the same thing. It gave Trimble County a win and they had been winless for a couple of seasons. Maybe they can return the favor this week.”
Miller said the key to this week’s game is being able to run the ball effectively at Timble County.
“They played Berea this past week and Berea beat them pretty handily by running the ball straight at them,” Miller said. “I think we should be able to move the ball down the field on them.”
Friday night’s game will be broadcast on Trimble County’s radio WIKI 95.3 FM. It will be broadcast on the internet at www.953wiki.com.
Dillon Wood made a play for the quarterback Friday night to get a sack during the first half of play. Clinton County lost the game by a final score of 52-6.
Gavin McWhorter took down a Wayne County player in the opening play of Friday night’s game. Clinton County lost the contest 52-6 and move to 0-1 on the season.
