Now it (usually) starts to feel more like fall
With the arrival – and passing – of the Labor Day holiday, things usually start to feel, and look, more like fall. Officially, we’re still in summer, at least until September 22, when the fall equinox arrives marking the change of the season at about 9:49 a.m. local time.
Still, September usually means cooler nights and noticeably shorter days, so things start to feel more like fall even before the official arrival of the season, thus “fall sports” tend to become more enjoyable with the cooler surroundings.
Our gridiron Dawgs are still looking for the first win of the season after suffering a 48-14 loss Friday night on Bulldog Field at the hands of Adair County, a 3A team .
The Dawgs will hit the road this Friday night, taking a trip to face yet another 3A team when they take on Casey County at Liberty in a contest set for an 8:00 p.m., local time, kickoff.
Both teams will be entering Friday night’s game looking for win No. 1 on the year, as Casey County is coming off of a similar loss to the one just suffered by Clinton County, with the Rebels losing this past Friday night to Sheldon Clark, 56-14.
Looking even further ahead on the schedule, the Dawgs get away from the 3A schools for a stretch in two weeks when they begin a four-week home stretch on September 14 hosting Caverna (1A), followed by Metcalfe County on September 21 (2A) and Glasgow (2A) on September 28, and Middletown Christian out of Ohio on October 5.
In other CCHS sports lineups for the next week, the Golf Dawgs and Lady Dawgs are at home Thursday, September 6, playing host to Monroe County, then the Lady Golf Dawgs compete on Saturday, September 8, at Paul Walker in Bowling Green for the Warren East Invitational. Both teams return home for matches on Monday and Tuesday, September 10 and 11 at Dale Hollow Lake State Resort Park, facing Wayne and Cumberland, then Monticello respectively.
The Volley Dawgs are on the road for their next two outings, traveling to Metcalfe County on Friday, September 7, then Russell County on Monday, September 11. Both matches set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
In soccer, the girls’ travel to Warren East on Thursday, September 6, followed with another road trip to Barren County on Friday, September 7, returning home to host Grayson County on Monday, September 10. All three matches have a 6:00 start time.
The boys’ soccer Dawgs host Glasgow on Thursday, September 6 (6:00), then head to Hart County on Saturday, September 8 (11:00 a.m.)
The Runnin’ Dawgs cross country team will head to the western part of the state this Saturday, when they compete in the Owensboro Invitational.
