on the year, host Caverna Friday

The Clinton County Bulldogs didn’t come home with a win after Friday night’s game against Casey County, 52-8.

“We never sustained a true drive, but we would get a couple of first downs and then have to punt,” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “We took care of the football pretty well. We only had one turnover. We just couldn’t stop them on defence.”

In recent week’s, Miller said turnovers are the one thing his team had been plagued with. During the previous two years, Trimble County has defeated the Bulldogs in games Clinton County has a real chance to pick up a win and Miller said turnovers are like shooting yourself in the foot. During both games against Trimble County, Clinton County’s turnovers have determined the outcome. Miller hopes to take care of the football against Caverna this week.

“We are working on being smart and taking care of the football,” Miller said. “Caverna is another team that if we play smart and take care of the football then it’s going to be a good game for us. I think we’ve had only one turnover during the past two games, so that’s pretty positive.”

Miller said Casey County was a very physical team and always has been. In the past, several players have been injured during the Casey County game and Miller said that’s due to their strength.

“I had told them all year that Casey County was very physical and that was obvious because they mauled us up front. It all goes back to the weight room.” Miller said. “Their first play went about 40 yards and their second play went about 30 yards, then they stuck it in the end zone.”

One bright spot for Clinton County Football is the Bulldogs have scored in every game this season, including last week’s game against Casey County.

Cole Nelson caught a pass for a touchdown and Tristan Lehman ran the ball in for a two-point conversion.

Clinton County’s game this Friday night will be against Caverna, which will start a four-game home stretch for the Bulldogs.

Following this week’s game, Clinton County will host Metcalfe County, Glasgow and Middletown Christian out of Ohio.

“Metcalfe, two weeks from now, will be our first district game,” Miller said. “We have to focus on Caverna right now and try to go out and play the best we can and have a chance to win a football game. I think Caverna is down in numbers. The team who makes the fewest mistakes and takes care of the football will probably come out on top.”

Friday night’s game will be homecoming for Clinton County with those festivities beginning before kick off which is 7 p.m.
