Monday, February 14, was probably just another day at the office for most people in Albany. Many people probably received a delivery from a loved one, while others did the sending.

Although it was just another work day for some, many people came together and had one of the busiest days of the year.

Local florists and their delivery vans, were seen on the road all day long.

Jay Garner, owner of City Florist, said Valentine’s Day is probably one of the biggest holiday’s of the year for him and his staff.

“We will go through probably 1,200 to 1,500 red roses today,” Garner said. “We will also do hundreds of deliveries as well.”

Garner’s staff went all out for the occasion, dressing up in tuxedos with red vests and red bow ties.

“It probably takes about a month or more to prepare for this holiday,” Garner said.

Early Monday morning, Garner and his staff were loading several vehicles for the first deliveries of the day. Balloons, flower arrangements and other heart shaped decorations were set to be delivered all over Albany.

Not only the flower shops in Albany took part in Valentine’s Day. Dyer Drug was also doing their part to promote good heart health. February is designated as American Heart Month.

According to the American Heart Association, an average 2,200 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day. One in three people in the United States are estimated to have one or more types of cardiovascular disease.

Dyer Drug Co. is located on the square in Albany, and while some people were getting flowers for Valentine’s day, others were getting their blood pressure checked as well as several other screenings that were being provided by the pharmacy in relation to American Heart Month.
