Metcalfe County lost a second young person in less than two weeks as the result of a motor vehicle accident. On August 27, Chelsea Anders, 17, a junior at Metcalfe County High School succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident.

On Thursday, September 6 at approximately 10:08 p.m., 18-year-old Caleb A. Capps was traveling north on KY 551 in Adair County when the 2004 Chevy truck he was driving left the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned several times. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Adair County Coroner David Taylor. Caleb was a freshman at Lindsey Wilson College.

A passenger, 18-year-old Jessica Mikel of Louisville, was flown from Westlake Regional Hospital to University of Kentucky hospital and was in stable condition. Another passenger, 17-year-old Jessica Burba of Louisville, was flown from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital and was listed in serious condition. Mikel and Burba were not wearing seat belts.

Another passenger, 18-year-old Antonio Simmons of Radcliff, was belted and was not injured.

The community is saddened by the loss of these local children.
