A Crossville woman was killed and three others injured in a traffic crash on Highway 70 just west of Cookeville on Saturday, October 13, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Thelma Christine McNeal, 85, of Falling Water Road, Cookeville, was fatally injured in the accident, which occurred just before noon. She was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a head-on crash, says a report by State Trooper Matilda Mahaney.
The trooper’s report says Pennie Elaine Cole, 34, of Main Street, Baxter, was driving a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck west on Highway 70 and crossed over the highway’s center line and struck another vehicle head-on.
The other vehicle was a 2005 Chevrolet Envoy SUV that was headed east.
The driver, Mildred Morgan, 65, of Falling Water Road, Cookeville, was injured, and the right front seat passenger, Thelma Christine McNeal, was fatally injured. A backseat passenger, Sherry L. Morgan, 32, of Falling Water Road, Cookeville, was also injured.
The driver of the GMC pickup, who was also injured, was wearing a seatbelt, and the three occupants of the other vehicle were also using safety belts, the trooper noted in the report.
No further details of the accident were given on the report, but the trooper did note that the crash is still under investigation.
