The Clinton County Football team traveled to Green County Friday night with 13 players on the bus. In its final district game of the season, the Bulldogs took the field with nearly half of its starting lineup not present.
The Bulldogs lost the game 65-6, and moved to 0-9 on the year.
Although 13 players were on the sidelines, only 12 were able to take the field, with Takota Dalton being sidelined due to an ankle injury he sustained in practice last week.
“I just want to commend the 12 guys who played and the 13 who showed up,” Head Coach Jamie Miller said. “We’ve always tried to schedule where the Foothills is on our off weekend, but the KHSAA moved the schedule back a week. I’ve always said since I’ve been here that I would rather have 11 guys who are dedicated than have 50 with no heart. We went over there with 12 guys and they basically played the whole game.”
Of the 12 players who were able to play Friday night, Miller said five of them were freshmen.
“It was an eye opener for the young kids,” Miller said. “They got in there and fought, played and had fun. They worked hard. They are not ready to play against a tough opponent, but at least now they know where they stand.”
This Friday night, the Bulldogs will face Emincnce at 8 p.m. The Warriors have a 6-3 record this season.
“They are a little better this year than they were last year, according to their record anyways,” Miller said. “We have to have comittment. We have to build a sucessful football program. In order for the program to survive, there are going to be changes within the program. It starts with me. I can’t work any harder than I do right now, but I can change some rules in order to get this program to where it needs to be.”
