Gridiron Dawgs headed to the Derby City

Our Bulldogs will head north this Friday night for the first round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.

In layman’s terms – that’s the new sponsored link name for the state playoffs, and our Dawgs will be facing the Centurions of Christian Academy – Louisville.

Clinton County’s first round playoff appearance takes place on the Centurion Field as the Bulldogs (0-10) will be hoping to upset the 7-3 Centurions in a game set to begin at 6:30 p.m. central time.

Roundball just ahead

Basketball fans can rejoice, we’re finally into November and that means the 2012-13 schedule is slated to get underway before this month is over.

In fact, official practice is now in full swing, and within the next couple of weeks, both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will be suiting up for pre-season scrimmages.

A quick rundown of what’s in store in the next couple of weeks sees the Bulldogs headed to Campbellsville University on November 16 for a scrimmage against Marion County (6:45) while the Lady Dawgs are headed to Southwestern on November 17 to scrimmage against Somerset High (1:45).

Each team will have an additional scrimmage on November 20, the boys at Casey County (5:00), while the girls will host Caverna (5:30).

First real-game action for both sees the teams headed in opposite directions on the same night – Monday, November 26 – with the Dawgs headed east to Rockcastle County for the season opener (5:30 J.V. start) while the Lady Dawgs head west to Franklin-Simpson (6:00 J.V. start).

The first home appearance should be interesting, with the C.C.H.S. teams playing host to the Australian National teams for a double header home opener on Friday, November 30 (6:00 p.m.).

That should be enough early roundball news to get the local fans fired up and ready to go.

Big Blue Mania even closer

Of course, the closest date that local roundball fans need to be sure they have circled on the calendar is the upcoming Meet the Bulldogs/Big Blue Mania night set for Saturday, November 10.

Things will get underway of course with the Booster Club meal in the cafeteria, followed by the Meet the Bulldogs and scrimmages, and of course the inductions into the Basketball Wall of Fame.

Watch next week for more exact and detailed information.

Hold on – we’ll be throwing it up before you know it.
