Kentucky’s Adjutant General, Major General Edward W. Tonini, has announced plans for the Departure Ceremony to honor a group of soldiers who will be deploying to Jordan.

The ceremony has been set for this Sunday, December 16, at Barren County High School in Glasgow, beginning at 2:00 p.m. central standard time.

Soldiers from the Kentucky National Guard’s 1st Battalion 623rd Field Artillery Regiment (HIMARS) are currently preparing for a mobilization to The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Several of the soldiers are from Clinton County and Wayne County with the Charlie Battery in Monticello.

The unit’s primary mission during the deployment will be military-to-military training with soldiers of the Jordanian Army.

Earlier this year, a group of the Battalion’s leadership visited Jordan to meet with the US forces currently conducting the mission and the Jordanian units they will be working with.

During the mobilization, several soldiers will be assigned to a rear detachment and continue to work at the unit’s armories in Monticello, Campbellsville, Tompkinsville, and Glasgow.

The 1-623rd FA was last mobilized in 2004-2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
