Lady Dawgs pick up two wins

Tara Elmore went strong to the basket during the first half of Tuesday’s December 18 home game against Taylor County. Elmore finished the game with five points while the Lady Dawgs defeated Taylor County by 30 points, 57-27.

The Clinton County Lady Lady Bulldogs traveled to Caverna for the Caverna Lady Colonels Christmas Classic.

Clinton County played three games over the course of the tournament and picked up one win.

Edmonson County 42

The first game of the tournament saw Clinton County take on Edmonson County.

During the first quarter, Clinton County found themselves down by only two points 10-8. During the second quarter, the Lady Dawgs took a four point lead at halftime, 25-21.

During the third quarter, Edmonson outscored Clinton County, 12-5, to take a three point lead at the end of three periods, 33-30.

The final quarter, Clinton County only put up nine points, and allowed Edmonson County nine points during the quarter. Edmonson County defeated Clinton County by three points, 42-39.

The Lady Dawgs shot 18 for 26 from the floor for 69 percent and committed 15 turnovers for the game.

Fort Knox 34

Clinton County’s only win of the tournament came on Friday against Fort Knox. The Lady Dawgs scored over its opponent and grabbed a 27 point victory for the Lady Dawgs fourth win of the season.

During the first quarter, Clinton County outscored Fort Knox 18-10 and added to its lead in the second quarter, 15-8, for a 33-18 halftime lead.

During the third quarter, Clinton County scored 16 points to Fort Knox’s eight points for a 49-26 lead.

For the final quarter, Clinton County put up 12 points to Fort Knox’s eight for a 61-34 win.

Clinton County shot 20 of 26 from the foul line and committed 24 turnovers.

Presentation 69

In the final game of the Caverna Lady Colonel Christmas Classic, Clinton County took on Presentation. The outcome saw the Lady Dawgs struggle from the floor and finish the game with a 20 point loss.

After the first quarter of play, Clinton County only trailed by two points, 15-13. Presentation picked up the pace in the second quarter and led at halftime, 31-21.

By the end of the third quarter, Clinton County had cut the lead to eight points, but a fourth quarter surge by Presentation saw Clinton County score only 12 points to Presentation’s 24 points.

Clinton County moved to 4-7 on the year with the 20 point loss, 69-49.

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Taylor County on Tuesday, December 18, before the team left for its Christmas Tournament on Thursday of that week.

The Lady Dawgs pretty much dominated the entire game, picking up the 30 point win, 57-27.

As the game got underway, Clinton County led from the opening tip to the final buzzer. Dicken scored 10 points in the first four minutes of the game for a 13-2 lead over Taylor County.

The rest of the period went much the same way as Clinton County’s Alex Beard hit a three pointer with a minute on the clock for a 24-5 first quarter score.

During the second quarter, Beard opened up with another three pointer, followed by a basket by Ansley Stalcup to lead Taylor County, 29-5.

The game still continued to be dominated by the Lady Dawgs and Clinton County went into the locker room at halftime with a 40-14 lead.

During the second half, Clinton County didn’t score as many points as the team did in the first half, however, it’s defense picked up a notch, allowing only 13 points to be scored by Taylor in the third and fourth quarters combined.

Several players for Clinton County got into the action, including Allie Hopper who scored a basket with five seconds remaining in the third quarter, 52-18.

During the final quarter, Taylor County outscored Clinton County, but the damage had already been done. As the clock sounded to end the game, Clinton County took win number three of the season in a surprising blowout fashion, 57-27.

The Lady Dawgs will be at home for an after-Christmas tournament, the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic.

Clinton County will take on Cumberland County on Thursday, December 27, Pickett County on Friday, December 28, Clay County TN. at 3 p.m. on Saturday and McCreary Central on Saturday night.

Other than Saturday’s 3 p.m. game, all other games are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at Lindle Castle Gymnasium.
