Cumberland County Hospital’s $8.5 million addition and renovation project has just finished Phase I.
Phase I of the project includes 24 patient rooms, two isolation patient rooms and a new hospital pharmacy. This new 20,000 square foot addition is set to open in the next week or so.
Five of the new patient rooms are larger to accommodate families for extended stays.
Phase 2 of the project includes a new physical therapy department, kitchen, dining room and chapel. This phase is expected to be completed at the end of April 2013.
Phase 3 and 4 will be renovating old patient rooms into offices. The business office which is off site at present will be returning to the hospital. This phase is expected to be completed in July 2013.
The hospital board of directors and hospital management began working on this project in June 2009.
“We are pleased to be able to bring this modern technology to Cumberland County in order to take the best care of our patients,” Rick Neikirk, hospital administrator, said. “We pledge to continue providing the best care possible to all of Cumberland County.”
The hospital opened in 1965 and the current emergency room opened in 1993.
