A Monroe County man lost his life as the result of a house fire that occurred Saturday evening, December 27 at 187 Brown Cemetery Road.
According to reports from Monroe County Fire and Rescue and Kentucky State Police, a call was received at 8:94 p.m. reporting the blaze, with Monroe County Fire and Rescue, Tompkinsville Fire Department and Mud Lick Fire Departments responding. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully involved in flames.
After firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, the body of Ernest Walker, 72, was discovered in the rubble, and Kentucky State Police Post 15 out of Columbia was notified to investigate. Detective Jamie Richard and Arson Investigator Alex Wesley are conducting the investigation; however, a KSP report noted that no foul play is suspected.
Other agencies assisting at the scene include the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Monroe County Coroner.
