Freshmen teams sweep district

Lady Dawgs coast through championship

The Clinton County Lady Bulldog Freshmen team won the 16th District Freshmen Tournament this past weekend by defeating Metcalfe County in the first game, and Russell County in the second game.

In the game against Metcalfe County, both teams struggled to make shots.

After the first quarter of play the score was tied at six. During the second quarter, Clinton County went on an 18-6 run to lead at the halftime 24-12.

The second half showed more of the same as Clinton outscored the Lady Hornets 13-4 and stretched its lead to 23 to begin the fourth and final quarter of play.

After exchanging baskets in the final quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on to victory with a final score of 47-23.

The championship game saw much of the same from the Lady Bulldogs as they again started the game against Russell County in a slow fashion.

After finding themselves on the short end of a 7-0 run to start the game, Clinton County responded in a huge way by going on a 30-3 run that took place across the first, second, and part of the third quarters.

Halfway through the third quarter Clinton County found themselves with a 20-point lead with a score of, 30-10.

The fourth and final quarter was also slow as the Lady Bulldogs used the clock to their advantage and held on for a 34-21 victory for the 16th District Girls Freshman Championship.
