Tourney time in Kentucky – part 1

Things got off and running Monday night in Burkesville with the opening round of the 16th District Tournament and with that opening round, our Bulldogs were quick to get the job at hand done and make sure that they would be on the hardwood later this week when action moves on to the championship round.

Monday’s 68-29 win over the Hornets of Metcalfe sends our Dawgs to that championship game this Thursday against the winner of Tuesday night’s Russell County – Cumberland County matchup.

What we need is a huge crowd on hand for our championship appearance Thursday night.

In girls’ action, the Lady Dawgs were set to play Metcalfe County on Tuesday night in action that was too late for this week’s coverage, with the winner of that opening round game headed to Friday night championship game to face Russell County, the winner of Monday night’s opening round contest against Cumberland County (45-24).

Next, we move on to the Regionals and again, word of those matchups and even the first round of the boys’ 4th Region play will be held after this week’s publication.

What we do know already is this – gas it up and get ready to head to Bowling Green either next Monday or Tuesday to cheer our Dawgs onto the next round in the 4th Region play.

Radio auction another success

It’s always fun to watch the “newbies” who are on hand for their first Basketball Booster Club / WANY Radio Auction during the first few minutes they’ve had working the event.

Everyone eventually gets the hang of their duty, but for those first timers, the pace we set and work at throughout the night can be a little overwhelming.

Still, everyone had a great time last Friday night at the cafeteria as we again had a very successful program and raised a nice sum of funds for our basketball program.

At last count, the grand total raised wasn’t quite as good as last year’s record setting event, but at about $8,500, it was still better than average and highly successful.

Thanks to everyone who played a part in this annual FUNdraiser for the roundball programs at CCHS.

Now – back to the business at hand for this time of year . . .

It’s tourney time in Kentucky – don’t call me until April!
