Grand jury indictments include drug related, multi-count charges

The Clinton County Grand Jury convened in regular session a week ago Monday, February 18 with a busy slate of cases to consider. The 12-panel body returned indictments against 11 individuals, several on multiple counts and also had five “no true bills” returned in other cases.

The following indictments were handed down in open Clinton Circuit Court last week:

* The alleged offenses of manufacturing methamphetamine; possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a controlled substance-first degree (meth); possession of a meth precursor; sexual abuse (three counts); and persistent felony offender (three counts), against Richard Guthrie, when on or about January 25, the defendant possessed two or more chemicals or items of equipment used in the manufacture of meth; possessed marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a controlled substance, a meth precursor, subjected a minor child incapable of consent to sexual contact by forcible compulsion and committed the offenses after having been stood convicted of a prior felony offense within the last five years.

* The alleged offenses of manufacturing methamphetamine; possession of a meth precursor; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of marijuana; and possession of a controlled substance-first degree (meth), against Teresa L. Waid, when on or about January 25, the defendant possessed two or more chemicals or items of equipment used in the manufacture of meth, possessed a meth precursor, possessed drug paraphernalia, possessed marijuana and possessed a controlled substance.

* The alleged offenses of manufacturing methamphetamine; possession of a meth precursor; possession of marijuana; possession of a controlled substance-first degree (meth); and possession of drug paraphernalia, against Danni Lynn Burgin, when on or about January 25, the defendant possessed two or more chemicals or items of equipment used in the manufacture of meth, possessed a drug precursor, possessed marijuana; possessed a controlled substance and possessed drug paraphernalia.

* The alleged offenses of manufacturing methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance-first degree (meth); possession of a meth precursor; possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia, against Joshua E. Shaw, when on or about January 25, the defendant possessed two or more chemicals or items of equipment used in the manufacture of meth, possessed a controlled substance, a meth precursor, possessed marijuana and possessed drug paraphernalia.

* The alleged offenses of operating a motor vehicle under the influence-third offense (aggravating circumstances); failure to maintain insurance; operating a motor vehicle on a revoked or suspended license for DUI; and failure to register or transfer vehicle, against Carolyn Guffey, when on or about December 31, 2012, the defendant operated a motor vehicle with an alcohol concentration at or above 0.08, had no insurance, was driving on a revoked or suspended license for DUI and failed to register or transfer vehicle.

* The alleged offenses of theft by unlawful taking or disposition; possession of stolen mail (two counts); and reckless driving, against Jacob Daley, when on or about January 9, the defendant took or exercised control over a 2009 Cadillac Escalade, the moveable property of Steve Burchett, property having a value of more than $10,000; possessed stolen mail matter from the mail boxes of Joe Seely and Chad L. Scott; and failed to operate his vehicle in a careful manner.

* The alleged offense of theft by unlawful taking or disposition against Justin B. Lester, when on or about July 5, 2012, the defendant took or exercised control over a check in the amount of $4,425, the moveable property of Dexter Marcum.

* The alleged offense of theft by deception against Joshua A. Key, when on or about October 10, 2012, the defendant intentionally purchased and received 12 calves from Bluegrass Stockyards, having a value of less than $10,000.

* The alleged offense of tampering with physical evidence against Amber York, when on or about January 26, the defendant disposed of a bag of marijuana.

* The alleged offense of criminal attempt to commit escape-second degree, against Joseph P. Coop, when on or about February 4, the defendant slung his hands from the hands of the Baliff, Howard Barnett, slinging the handcuffs to the floor in an attempt to escape.
