The Clinton County Bulldogs finished its season with a very impressive 22-7 record for the 2010-2011 season, however, the Bulldogs were defeated in the first round of the district tournament by host Metcalfe County, 52-39.

The Bulldogs started off very slow, as Metcalfe County took complete advantage of hosting the district tournament.

The Hornets jumped out to a 7-0 lead during the first six minutes of the first quarter. Just when Clinton County fans were starting to sweat a little, Clinton County cut the lead to two points with 1:40 on the clock.

By the end of the first quarter, Clinton County trailed by one point, 10-9.

The second quarter got started and it was evident Clinton County was on a mission. The Bulldogs tied the score in the opening minute when Wendell Maupin hit a three pointer, 12-12. The Bulldogs took the lead on a field goal by Keifer Dalton, but a 4-0 run by Metcalfe County put the Hornets up by two points, 16-14.

The Bulldogs tied the score again on the next possession as Will Parrish knocked down a field goal. Clinton County then when on another scoring drought that saw Metcalfe County grab a seven point lead with 2:54 remaining in the half.

With two minutes and a second on the clock, Maupin hit a field goal to cut the lead to five, followed by two free throws by Wayne Stearns with 12 seconds on the clock to trail by three points, 23-20.

The third quarter seemed to be what put Clinton County away as the Hornets held Clinton County scoreless until the 2:04 mark.

By this time, Metcalfe County had grabbed a nine point lead and all hope was lost, but a spark in the Bulldogs’ lineup allowed Clinton County to put together a 9-2 run to finish out the third quarter and trail by only three points to start the fourth quarter, 31-28.

The beginning of the fourth quarter saw Metcalfe County hold the Bulldogs on defense while adding a large deficit to the scoreboard.

Metcalfe County went on a 15-0 run to lead by 18 points with 3:11 on the clock.

Clinton County just didn’t have enough time although they didn’t give up as Ryan Beard and Dalton both hit three pointers to cut the lead to 12 points, 46-34.

Clinton County added five more points to the scoreboard before the game ended as Joe Davis knocked down a three pointer, followed by two free throws by Maupin.

Clinton County’s time ran out putting an end to a remarkable season, 52-39.

Clinton County shot 25.5 percent from the floor, hitting 14 of 55, including six of 24 from the three point line.

From the foul line, Clinton County only attempted seven shots, hitting five, for 71.4 percent.
