Lady Dawgs finish season at 4-25

DSC_6401.psdThe Clinton County Lady Bulldogs fell in the opening round of the 16th District Tournament Tuesday night, as the host team, Metcalfe County, defeated the Lady Dawgs, 54-25.

Clinton County finished its season with a 4-25 overall record, while finishing 2-5 in district play.

The Lady Bulldogs did a respectable job of keeping the score low against the Lady Hornets, but a lack of scoring on the Lady Dawgs’ side saw Metcalfe County win with ease.

In the first quarter, Clinton County drew first blood with a basket by Breonia Thurman in the opening minute of the game.

Metcalfe County responded with a 9-0 run. Shyanne McWhorter hit one of two from the free throw line to cut the lead to six, but two field goals by Metcalfe County gave the Lady Hornets a 10 point lead with 1:31 on the clock.

Clinton County’s Alex Beard hit a field goal with less than a minute remaining to finish the quarter trailing by eight points, 13-5.

It took just shy of four minutes before Clinton County would score in the second quarter as Ansley Stalcup hit one of two from the free throw line to cut Metcalfe’s lead to 11 points and start a 6-0 run.

With 3:45 on the clock, Clinton County had climbed back in to the game and trailed by six points, 17-11.

Metcalfe County put together a 4-1 run to finish the half and lead by nine points, 21-12.

The third quarter saw a little fight in the Lady Bulldogs as Thurman and Stevi Morgan started putting the ball in the basket.

Both players combined cut the lead to five points with 4:10 remaining in the third period, 28-23, but Metcalfe County responded with an 11-0 run to finish the quarter with a 19 point lead, 42-23.

During the fourth quarter, Clinton County failed to make a field goal. The Lady Dawgs’ only points came off two free throws made by Morgan. Metcalfe County grabbed 12 more points to put Clinton County away, 54-25.

The Lady Dawgs hit eight of 42 from the floor for 19 percent, including one of eight from the three point line. From the foul line, the Lady Dawgs hit eight of 13 for 61.5 percent.
