Tennis teams pick up several wins

The Clinton County Tennis teams served up its season this year with several matches during its first week.

For the boys’ team, Clinton County hosted Cumberland County and South Warren on Saturday, picking up four wins against the Panthers and four wins against South Warren.

In singles play against Cumberland County, it was Kolby Smith and Zach McFall picking up wins 8-1 and 8-3 respectively while John Crouch was defeated 8-5.

In doubles competition, the team of Glen England and Haley Matthews won 8-3, while Chris Cox and Kyle Choate picked up an 8-1 win.

Against South Warren, Clinton County swept the Spartans in singles and doubles, while Smith, McFall and Cox picked up the singles wins, while the team of England and Matthews picked up the 6-4, 6-4 doubles win.

On Friday, March 15, Clinton County hosted Casey County. The Racket Dawgs struggled against its opponent, losing eight total matches while picking up one win in doubles competition. The team of Choate and Matthew Hunter won their match, 8-1.

Clinton County also traveled to Cumberland County on Tuesday, March 12, and picked up three singles wins by Smith, McFall and Cox, followed by two doubles wins by the team of England and Matthews and Matthew Wells and Hunter, 6-2 and 6-4 respectively.

On the girls’ side of the net, Clinton County also hosted Cumberland County and South Warren on Saturday, picking up three wins and dropping two matches against the Lady Panthers.

Bianca Soma won her singles match, 8-1, while Alissa Cook dropped two matches, 8-1 and 8-6.

In doubles play, the team of Rachel Claborn and Ashley Harper won 8-1, as did the team of Keisha Patrick and Kristin Smith, 8-4.

Against South Warren, Clinton County was shutout in singles play as Soma and Cook both lost their respective matches. The team of Patrick and Smith also lost in doubles play, 8-4.

The Lady Racket Dawgs also traveled with the boys’ team on Tuesday to Cumberland County where the girls’ picked up five wins and two losses for the match.

Soma, Patrick and Chesney Polston won their singles matches for three of the five wins. The team of Claborn and Harper, as well as the team of Patrick and Smith both won in doubles play for the final two wins of the match.
