A Cumberland County woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Sunday, March 31 on Hwy. 90, two miles west of Willow Shade.
According to Kentucky State Police, Melena Hughes Capps, 20, was traveling east on Hwy. 90 when she apparently lost control of her vehicle in a curve and slid into the path of a westbound pickup truck driven by James Spera, 57, of New Castle, Indiana.
Capps was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Metcalfe County Coroner.
Spera was wearing a seat belt. He was transported to Cumberland County Hospital where he was treated and released.
Trooper Logan Richardson was the investigating officer.
