Tennis teams pick up wins last week

The Clinton County High School Racket Dawgs and Lady Racket Dawgs picked up several wins last week with matches on Friday, April 12, and Tuesday, April 9. Both teams also played Monday, against Barren County, but lost seven matches during the game.

For the boys’ team on Tuesday against Metcalfe, it was Kolby Smith, Chris Cox, Zach McFall, Kyle Choate, Matthew Wells and John Crouch picking up the singles wins, while Matthew Hunter lost his singles competition, 8-5.

In doubles play, the team of Haley Matthews and Glen England won 7-5 and 6-2, as well as Choate/McFall, 8-1 and Wells/Hunter 8-1.

On Friday, the boys’ team won eight matches and lost one against Monroe County.

In singles play, Smith, Choate and Hunter won 6-1, while McFall defeated his opponent 6-2. Wells shutout his opponent 6-0. The only loss in singles play came as Crouch lost 7-6 and 8-6 in the tiebreaker.

In doubles play, Matthews/England won 6-1, Choate/McFall won the shutout, 6-0 and Hunter/Wells were victorious, 6-2.

For the Lady Racket Dawgs on Tuesday against Metcalfe County, it was Bianca Soma winning two singles matches, 6-3 – 6-4 and 6-0, while the team of Rachel Claborn and Ashley Harper lost two doubles matches and won one, 6-3.

On Friday, against Metcalfe County, the girls’ team won four matches and lost five.

In singles play, it was Soma picking up two wins, 6-3 and 6-0, while Alissa Cook won one and lost one, 6-2 and 6-4 respectively.

Harper won her singles match, 6-0, while Claborn lost her match, 6-2.

In doubles competition, it was Claborn/Harper with a 6-3 loss, Kristia Smith and Keisha Patrick lost 6-1 and Abby Craig and Hannah Smith lost 6-0.

On Monday, Clinton County traveled to Barren County. On the girls’ side, Soma lost her singles match, 6-4 and 0-6. In doubles play, Claborn and Harper lost 7-6. On the boys’ side, McFall, Hunter and Wells dropped their singles match, while the team of England and Matthews lost in doubles play. Cox and Choate also lost their doubles play match.
