Well known local minister, Brother Anson Perkins, died on Thursday, April 25 at his home. Perkins was 79.
Perkins was the long-time pastor at Sandusky Chapel Baptist Church, and he was well-known for his outreach work in the community.
He worked with young and old alike, bringing people together and teaching them about the love of God.
In his column included in last week’s Outlook, Brother Harlan Ogle shared some of his thoughts about Perkins, noting that he was one of the last “old time country preachers” in the county.
Ogle noted that Perkins did not spend a lot of time worrying about the kinds of clothes people wore or the vehicle they drove. Instead, Perkins worked to reach out to those who “others considered unreachable and unwanted.”
“He had a heart so big that it didn’t matter if you came to church in patched britches or a faded dress,” Ogle wrote. “You could wear overalls or a feed sack dress. It didn’t matter to him. I suspect that some years ago he read the words of Jesus: ‘Whatever you did for one (of) the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’”
Services for Perkins were held on Friday, April 26 at Sandusky Baptist Church, where he was also buried.
