A Coopersville community resident has died following an ATV accident on Thursday afternoon, May 2, according to the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.

Units from Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and Wayne County EMS were called to the Canada Creek Road where a man was reported to have run off the road while riding an ATV.

Upon their arrival it was determined that the man was deceased and the Coroner’s Office was asked to respond.

Alvin Brown, 65, of East KY 92 was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 p.m. by Wayne County Coroner Forrest Hicks.

Brown had apparently gone off the side of the grave portion of the road, with the vehicle overturning and coming to rest on him. During the examination of the victim, it was discovered that he had suffered a head injury and skull fracture during the accident that took his life.

It was determined that an autopsy would not be necessary in the case.

************************A special celebration of Monticello Independent School has been planned for Saturday, May 18, and everyone who has ever been a part of the school is invited to participate. The event will be held from 1 until 5 p.m. that afternoon, just before the final Monticello High School senior class receives their diplomas.

It’s an event that has generated a lot of interest, not only among alumni of the school but in the community, according to Lisa Morrow, who has helped plan the “Celebration of Trojan Tradition.”

“It started when I wanted to have my class reunion here–while the school was still blue and white and while our Trojan was still up,” said Morrow. “It snowballed into a ‘Celebration of Trojan Tradition’–not just an all-school reunion for alumni because there are people who had blood, sweat and tears put into this school, but they didn’t graduate from here. It is for anyone who has been touched by Monticello School.”

Plans are still being formalized, but a number of activities are planned at the school that afternoon. There will be guided tours of the school, and concessions will be available.

The Monticello High School Band will join with alumni band members who are interested in playing the school fight song for the very last time. Local photographer Wade Upchurch will be on hand to do photographs of the event. He will also be making a video for YouTube.

“We will have Rapid Transit and Borrowed Blue set up in the back around the outdoor classroom providing free concerts,” said Morrow.

Both bands include members who are Monticello graduates.

A special t-shirt has been designed that incorporates all three buildings for the school’s history, and that appears on the front of the blue shirt. The back includes a poem entitled “Trojan Pride,” written by Wade Upchurch.

The shirts are available for $10 for sizes small youth through adult extra large. There is an additional charge for larger sizes. Morrow noted that these are commemorative t-shirts and there is no profit involved.

“It will truly be a full Trojan day, she noted. “This celebration is from 1 until 5 p.m. Graduation will be at 7 p.m. and then Project Graduation will last until the wee hours.”
