A tragic accident on Tuesday, April 30 has claimed the life of a Cumberland County child.

According to Kentucky State Police, Kristian Sparks, 5, of Lawson Bottom Road, Burkesville, was playing with a .22 caliber rifle and accidentally shot his little sister, Caroline Sparks. The accident occurred at approximately 1:03 p.m.

Caroline Sparks was transported to Cumberland County Hospital where she was pronounced dead by Cumberland County Coroner Gary White.

An autopsy was performed Wednesday, May 1 which revealed the toddler died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Caroline Sparks is the daughter of Chris and Stephanie Sparks, and the granddaughter of Linda and Clifford Riddle and Mark and April Robinson.
